Overview
A highly specialised field of expertise, hydrographic surveying is undertaken to accurately determine marine and oceanographic data including:
| • | depth of water
|
| • | configuration and nature of bottom
|
| • | directions and force of currents
|
| • | heights and times of tides and water stages
|
| • | locations of topographic features and fixed objects |
Following the privatisation of the former Ports Corporation of South
Australia, the new port operator, Flinders Ports, determined that the
existing hydrographic surveying capability adopt a unique business identity.
The evolution to 'HydroSurvey Australia' recognises the services
provided by the group not only to Flinders Ports, but to a growing number
of external clients.
As a result of its long-term commitment to conducting regular surveys
of the channels of the major commercial ports of South Australia currently
operated by Flinders Ports, HydroSurvey Australia has developed the skills
and expertise to be at the leading edge of applied marine GIS (geographic
information systems) technology.
As part of it's regular port program, the group performs surveys
of navigational channels for design and maintenance purposes. In addition
to this core function, the group has undertaken contract hydrographic
and bathymetric surveys for the design and construction of commercial
ports and marinas, for navigation purposes, sweep surveys, locating shoals
and reefs, measuring currents and coastal sand migration.
The wide-ranging skills and experience of key personnel are complemented
with modern, state-of-the-art technology and equipment used in all facets
of hydrographic surveying and data management.
