Other Equipment on the Pathfinder

Communication: Contact with the vessel can be maintained anywhere via an Iridium 9505 satellite phone. A gimbal antenna ensures optimum signal strength, even while the vessel is under way. Communication via fax and e-mail can also be sent and received by the phone to the computer.

Navigation: A Furuno GP7000 plotter is the primary navigation device when the vessel is voyaging between sites.

Power supply: A 5 KVA diesel generator powers survey equipment requiring 240V supply.

Davit: A Davco general-purpose winch system is mounted in the cockpit. Apart from being used to deploy equipment over the side, it is extensively operated to collect bottom samples for scientific and EPA (Environment Protection Agency) purposes.

Sampling: A Shipek sediment sampler is used to collect seabed samples in depths up to 20m.

Safety: A Furuno 1832 Radar unit has also been fitted for navigational safety reasons.
