Laying the Fibre Optic Cable across Spencer Gulf

HydroSurvey Australia was contracted by Siemens to provide sub-metre guidance and position fixing for the laying of fibre optic cables across Spencer Gulf, South Australia. Three 40km long fibre optic cables were trenched into hard limestone one kilometre apart between Myponie Point and Shoalwater Point in South Australia. Guidance and position fixing was provided by manned staff for the entire three crossings 24hrs a day.

A series of plans were prepared showing the location and burial depth of the cables superimposed on rock formation data determined from seismic surveys carried out prior to the laying of the cable.
